FAR WESTERN AGE GROUP LC CHAMPIONSHIP MEET
July 28 – August 1, 2010
Concord, CA
 
TEAM TRAVEL INFORMATION
 
The RIO Coaching Staff has decided to travel to Concord, CA for the Far Western Age Group LC Championship Meet, July 28 – August 1, 2010. Far Westerns is an advanced level age group meet sponsored by Pacific Swimming. This year the meet host will be the Terrapins Swim Team in Concord. All swimmers must qualify to swim each event they are entered in. This will be a Team Trip. All swimmers qualifying for this meet are required to travel with the team, stay with the team, eat with the team, make all team meetings and return to Arizona with the team. There ARE NO EXCEPTIONS. Qualified swimmers planning on attending this meet must purchase their airline tickets, on the same flights the coaches are booked on, and commit via e-mail to Melissa on or before Thursday, July 1st.  See flight and hotel information at the end of this e-mail. 
 
A copy of the meet flyer is attached. Meet qualifying times can be found on pages 7 and 8 of the meet flyer. Swimmers can qualify by using LCM, SCY or SCM times. Qualifying times are considerably faster than the Arizona Q+ times we use for our State Championships. Events are swum for 10 &UNs, 11-12s, 13-14s, 15-16s and 17-18s - girls and boys. This is a Prelim/Final Meet with the top 9 swimmers from prelims (events 400 and shorter) returning to swim Finals each night. The 800 and 1500 Freestyle events are timed final events swum during the prelims. 
 
Meet Dates: Wednesday, July 28 – Sunday, August 1, 2010
Meet Location:  Concord Community Pool, 3501 Cowell Rd, Concord, CA
Sessions: 
Prelims: Wednesday – Sunday, July 28 – August 1, 2010
                        Warm-up: 7:00 AM, Meet Starts:  9:00 AM
Finals: Wednesday – Sunday, July 28 – August 1, 2010
            Finals will begin no sooner than one hour after the conclusion of Prelims.
            The referee will determine and announce the exact Final start time each day.
                       
Event Limit: All swimmers are limited to 3 individual events per day with a maximum of 9
            individual events for the meet.
 
Mike will be attending the meet with the swimmers. Should the number of swimmers going warrant sending a second coach Melissa will attend the meet. The team (swimmers & coaches) will be staying at the Hilton Concord.

Qualified swimmers wishing to attend Far Westerns must purchase their airline ticket on the same flights as the coaches. Once you have purchased your airline ticket please e-mail Melissa and let her know you have purchased your airline ticket and want to be added to the list of swimmers traveling to Far Westerns. Flight details are listed below:

The current price of this ticket is $232.40. Please keep in mind that Southwest only has a limited number of seats on each flight at this fare. If you plan to attend the meet please book your ticket ASAP or your ticket price may increase. 
 
Families will be billed on their RIO Account an equal portion of all trip costs which include: 5 nights hotel which includes breakfast each morning, van/car rental, gas, meet entry fees and coaches travel. Swimmers will need to bring money for meals and any incidentals (trip to grocery store for snacks, water etc and any meet souvenirs wanted).
 
FYI – We will not be attending the SC Far Western Meet in April 2011.
 
Thursday, July 1st is the deadline for committing to attend this meet. Airline ticket (flights listed above) must be purchased by the deadline and you must notify Melissa and let her know you wish to be added to the list of swimmers going to Far Westerns. 
 
The Coaching Staff strongly encourages all qualified swimmers to attend this meet. It’s a nice reward for the hard work, time and energy they put into their daily training not to mention they are swimming fast enough to qualify for this advanced level meet. Attending and experiencing this meet helps swimmers open their eyes to more advanced levels of swimming.
